#pitprom Checklist
Things you will need to submit to participate in #PitProm:
1. 140-character pitch. You've got 140 characters to grab our attention, including the #PitProm hashtag. (You can include other hashtags but those are not required.)
2. Query letter. Click Here for an example and ideas.
3. The first ten pages of your completed manuscript. These should be edited and your entire manuscript ready to submit to an agent or publisher. Have a few beta readers give you feedback to ensure these pages are as good as you can get them to be.

All About #Pitprom
The Process:
- Participants will submit three elements:
1) a 140-character pitch (Yes, only 140 characters! Be able to pitch your work with one sentence.)
2) query letter
3) the first 10 pages of the completed manuscript.
A very obvious button will be available above, leading participants to a "Participate" form where all three items can be copied, pasted, and submitted. - One entry per email address. Choose one category, Fantasy or Science Fiction, which best suits your work. No double entrees, please.
- The Royal Advisors will filter through the first 100 entrants and pick favorites, consisting of science fiction pitches and fantasy pitches. Entries must be submitted between 10:00 AM CST on Friday, July 26th, 2019 and 11:59 PM or until we reach 100 submissions.
- The list of finalists will go to the Counsel of Wordsmiths, who will each select their favorite pitches and begin working with those authors for a week.
- After a week of editing the pitch, query, and first ten pages, the revised pitches will be posted on the website in no particular order for voting by the agencies and publishers.
- The pitches with the most requests from agents/publishers are named King and Queen (title preference noted in submission and permitted to have 2 kings, 2 queens, etc). Title of King and Queen will be bestowed on Saturday, August 10th. If both King and Queen are from one court (sci fi or fantasy), that court wins. Bragging rights belong to the winning court (a tie can happen if the top two are from different teams), and bragging rights also go to the Wordsmith Counselor(s) who helped the winning authors.
- The top up-and-coming authors will also be featured on the Royal Advisors' and various Counsel of Wordsmiths' websites.
What Pitprom is:
- PitProm IS a place to submit your science fiction and fantasy pitches in order to win a time of mentoring with an author, and hopefully earn the opportunity to send your pitch to a literary agency or publisher who has requested to see your manuscript.
- PitProm IS an opportunity to network with writers and industry experts and let them see your potential.
- PitProm IS an experience to get critical feedback to improve your writing and pitching abilities.
- PitProm IS encouraging! We are here to help you succeed, and that means improving both strengths and weaknesses.
- PitProm IS fun! Not only will you get to geek out with other booklovers, you get to spend a week talking writing and wordplay, and also incorporating tech and magic. Is there really anything better?
what pitprom is not:
- PitProm IS NOT a guaranteed publishing contract. By being selected into the top sixteen or the top court, you may receive the opportunity to contact an agency or publisher who will be expecting your query. We do not guarantee your pitch will be selected, agented, or published.
- PitProm IS NOT a place for non-fiction, romance, historical, or contemporary manuscripts. While sci fi and fantasy will include these elements, if your protagonist’s plotline is to wear a corset and marry a wealthy duke, we will probably instruct you to strap a grenade launcher onto her shoulder, give her a magic wand, or toss her into another universe.
- PitProm IS NOT a place to discourage other writers or teammates. We are genuine, experienced writers with a heart to help others improve their art and accomplish their authorial goals. We want to help you succeed! Not everybody can win this contest, but everyone can gain experience. This is an opportunity to learn, to make new friends, and to create. This is a safe environment where we improve upon our current knowledge-base in a spirit of camaraderie.
